Spat + Loogie’s Unstant consists of a vending machine displaying eclectic trinkets the artists have assembled from synthetic items purchased from local bric-a-brac stores. The vending machine, located near the train station in Bankstown Plaza, offers commuters and local shoppers the chance to obtain the trinkets but not before visiting the artists’ website and providing contact details. Inspired by Japanese Butoh, Spat + Loogie’s opening performance will appear as if in slow motion and in stark contrast to the bustling pedestrian traffic. Unstant questions the effects of consumerism and draws attention to the many processes of mediation we subscribe to in order to fulfil our desire and dreams.
